The first-ever TEDxKāpiti event is due to take place on the 25th June 2022 and we are part of it!
With the theme Emerge, the full day event to be held at Te Raukura ki Kāpiti is focussed on sharing new ideas!
For those of you that have yet to come across TEDx, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
At a TEDx event, TED Talks, videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x equals independently organised TED event.
Every TEDx event is given a theme, and in 2022 Kāpiti and Horowhenua will be embracing the theme ‘Emerge’. Emerge means to come to light. To move out or away from something and to become apparent, or even prominent. It means new ideas.
I sat down with Charlotte to hear a bit more about the event and Pompom’s part in it all…
What is your role in the event? I am managing the event delivery and it's been great to work with some really creative people throughout the process. I don’t want to spoil it so I won’t say too much but there have been some great creative approaches to set design, the branding and of course the speaker line up!
How do you find being a part of the event? I love working alongside such talented individuals, there are some great businesses and volunteers working behind the scenes to bring this inaugural event to Kāpiti and it’s great to be a part of the very first one - very special indeed.
Why did you get involved? I was approached by Anna Colville-Smith of ACS Marketing to collaborate on the event with herself and a group of other awesome local businesses, led by Licensee Lorraine Hamilton. Natalie had supported TEDxTauranga a couple of years ago and loved the experience, so I was keen to get involved.
As a relative newcomer still here on the Kāpiti Coast it also seemed a fabulous way to get to know local businesses, give back to the community and really get amongst things.
How can people get involved in the event? Speaker nominations are now closed but we are looking for talented local performers to support on event day, so we would love to hear from any performers who would like to get involved.
Ticketing will also open soon and as there are only 100 seats I would recommend keeping a close eye on the socials and getting in quick!
